Toga is a garment worn by early Romans and the fabric is typically 6 meters in length. The cloth is enfolded around the body and is normally worn on the top of a tunic. They are now-a-days often worn for histrionics, school assignments or for a toga party. Togas are generally worn by Roman men who are the citizens of Rome. Women generally do not wear a toga. Here is a simple guide on how to make an authentic toga. Firstly you will need a cloth that is 6 meters long and one that hangs well and won't slither around. Have some safety pins to pin up the fabric so that the toga won't fall apart. The extra cloth can be worn as a headdress that covers your head and face. Typically wool is the fabric used to make a toga. The main reason behind wool being used is that it is rough and it would not fall or glide around. The toga resembles a semi circle when folded. Measure the distance from your neckline to the ground and your waistline to find out the ideal length of the fabric required. Once the measurement is done you cannot buy a cloth with exact dimensions as fabrics come in standard sizes. Purchase a 10 meter cloth and cut it suitably based on your measurements. You will definitely need the help of another person to drape your toga. Fold the toga in a semi-circular shape and hold the fabric in such a way that one corner goes down at the back of the left ankle and is half-shin height in length. The over short flap is in opposition to your body and the pleat should be facing outside. Now get the toga up over your left shoulder and make it to drop down. Collect the fabric and drape it crossways in your right hip. Wrap it around your body loosely. Put across the toga on your back and above the left shoulder and let it drop down your front. The excess fabric can finally be wrapped around your left arm.
