People put a lot of stock in the automobile blue book, but there is more to autos than blue book value. I should know. I am an used vehicle salesperson, which means that I earn my living honestly appraising and selling automobiles for their value. It is important to know the automotive black book rate for used cars, but that isn't all there is to it. Depending on how well you care for your car, what modifications and repairs you make, and even what weather you live in, the auto black book value can be far off. The car can be worth half of what it should be, or worth two times the book value for used cars. It all really depends. Automobile blue book for used cars is a great estimate, but it is just that. People look at the automobile blue book like it is the Holy Bible. If they can discover a car that is 300 bucks below the automobile blue book value, they think they've gotten a deal. If they find a vehicle that's just a couple hundred dollars over it, they will not even give it some thought. What they don't realize is that the more high-priced vehicle may be more costly for a reason. It doesn't matter what the automobile blue book says, if you change your oil regularly, drive your car carefully and slowly, and live in a local climate without harsh winters, it might well be worth more than the shown used vehicle value. Similarly, a fairly brand-new car can be so worn out that the automobile blue book value is a joke. It is going to be worth barely a small percentage of what the book says it's worth. Even if it looks good on the outside, it is going to be worn out on the inside. Honestly, the auto blue book value is a good place to start looking, but it is not the whole story. Only a qualified and competent technician can tell you the real facts about the car that you are looking at. Auto black book, after all, tells you how likely a specific make is to keep its worth and carry on running, but it doesn't tell you anything about any specific car. Only a detailed inspection, both outside and in, can determine that. I do not mean that you ought to look at it with care. I mean that you should have a technician check out the engine, the wheels, the shocks, the brake pads, and all the other important parts.
