Often they also pay a monthly fee to the HOA, about $30 above their mortgage and tax payments to help get what they need.The monthly addition cost is a way to fund the basic maintenance needs of the community includuing such things as roads, snow removal and lawn service.The HOA can potentially offer other things as well. It initiates yearly clean-up efforts by placing a dumpster on site for an advertised week. It pressures people to maintain their lawns to a uniform standard. And the people who live in the development watch out for one another's homes with unofficial subdivision block watch programs.Remember, that it is your right to inquire about past issues if you decide to move into an active HOA community. If you are required to bring something to the attention of the HOA at a regular meeting, make certain to tell an officer beforehand. This way they will be able to bring it up using Robert's Rules of order and keep the meeting running smoothly. Many home owner association members seem not to have anything to do with the world outside their development. They will know if a family who doesn't fit the community norm moves in. They will also be the ones to stop someone from parking Aunt Minnie's RV in their front yard or painting their house some weird color. Don't be afraid to get involved in the association; it's an opportunity for you to spread your wings as a community leader within your own little conclave, and maybe possibly, eventually, beyond it.
