It's time. If you wanted to do all the painting on your home, you'd have done it already! You want to get some great residential painting contractors to help you out. All that needs doing is to get a few different paint estimates and pick the best one. It certainly seems simple, don't you think? Well, it is an easy concept. People still manage to get it all wrong, though. This is especially true when they focus only on the price difference. Everyone loves to pay less. It's good on the budget, after all. But, will it be better in terms of the job itself? It certainly isn't out of the realm of possibility. That will depend on a number of factors, a couple of which are highlighted below: Experience of the Painters - exactly how long have these painting contractors you're looking at been in the industry? Have they been at it for many, many years? Or are they still wet behind the ears? This level of experience is a critical factor in determining your painting estimate. Experience is worth a lot, so you may end up paying more for an experienced crew. In most cases, this will be worth it. If the new guys screw up the job you'll end up paying twice: once for their shoddy work, again for someone experienced to come along and fix it. Level of Service Rendered - what level of service are your residential painting contractors going to provide you? The most basic service provided would be the painting itself, obviously. What sort of extra service will they be providing? Will the old paint be stripped off before new paint is applied? Is the paint they're using from a well-known brand? Will they apply several coats of paint, or just one? Will they properly cover your furniture and mask off areas so that paint doesn't get everywhere? If any spills do occur will they clean it up for you? You could get the basic service and then wind up with an one-coat job that needs to get redone after a year or two. Or you could wind up having to clean everything they mess up. When shopping around for a painting estimate you should be cautious and think of more than just the price tag. While cheaper may look better, you should see what sort of service and experience is coming with it. You could end up with a mess on your hands if you're too thrifty. When getting a paint estimate, always make sure the contractor provides references of prior work he's done. Find out exactly how good or bad each contractor is before you decide.
