A person can get infected with skin warts just by coming in contact with a surface that is already infested by HMV virus. Human Papilloma Virus is a commonly found virus that is not classified as contagious but is transmitted through contact with an infected person. Using his towel, handkerchief or even direct touch with his infected skin areas can result in a transfer of virus and eventually the development of warts. This is the most common type of warts and is therefore called common warts. Common warts manifest themselves on the outer surface of the skin or the epidermal layer by killing off skin cells and causing blisters to appear. These blisters are painless and are simple outgrowths on the surface that are composed of dead cells. Common warts are usually located around the hands, legs and knees, and are mostly found in clusters. Common wart is not a new problem, it has been around for ages now and methods for its treatment have already been in practice. Earlier, it was treated using an acidic solution to eat through the virus infecting the dead cells. Recent scientific research has proven that this approach is in fact an effective one and if in particular, Salicylic acid is used, it not only removes the dead skin cells in the blister but also liquefies the virus by eating away at its keratin composition. There are other methods that have now been developed to deal with Common warts namely, laser surgery, keratolysis, herbal treatments and cryosurgery. The three types of surgery namely laser, cryo and general surgery are equally effective in getting rid of warts however, more than one surgery may be required to completely rid the body off warts. Herbal treatments are also prescribed by doctors in certain cases while keratolysis is the treatment approach taken by Salicylic acid. Common warts are not generally that dangerous to health neither do they show fatality however, HPV has over a hundred strains and a few of the strains responsible for skin warts and genital warts are now known to be major carcinogens. These high risk strains cause cervical, penile and skin cancers if not well protected against. Even though it is not a contagious virus, the fact that getting the infection is as easy as touching an infected person or his towel means that the best way to protect against it is through prevention rather than cure. There are a few vaccines that are currently undergoing extensive trials and should be available soon in all major markets around the world. One particular vaccine that has already entered the market is Gardasil that is effective against cancer causing strains of the virus. It is only a matter of time before vaccines for other strains are found.
