Tera flop can be described as ten to the power of ten that is trillion floating-point operations per second. This is a measure of computer speed. Technology is no doubt advancing at a faster rate than it was a few years ago and this is going to be faster than what it is now. While computing the process of determining capacity, dimension and the time taken to do a task is what is called measurement. Different types of measurements of computers are available and these are used for computers of different generations. One such measure is tera which is used as a prefix to denote a trillion. Teraflops is trillion floating-point operations. Such high speed computers are mainly needed in the military field and research fields. These super computers are of various sizes and are made all over the world. The number of flops that any computer can handle, input and output at a given time, memory usage, is only part of the process to determine the computer speed. The unit to measure is flops and such computers can perform tasks that measure flops easily. Thus research is in progress in the military and education fields. This has benefited the computer chips all over the place. We can see that graphics chips have progressed and can process more FLOPS than the ordinary computer. In such a computer the more the calculations every second it can do the more actions can anyone using the system can perform. The type of operating system, its size, hardware usage, etc. will also limit the computing system usage. All this is researched for and better versions of the hardware are in the offing to increase the efficiency and thus give a better computing experience in the coming future. Thus a day will come when the speed of the typical computer will be measured in teraflops hopefully. To give a comparison we can take the example of a calculator. The calculator dose any calculation in a speed of 10 flops and it seems to be really speedy to us. In the super computer the same operation may take only a fraction of a second and it will be over before the used could realize the key has been pressed. These are some facts about teraflops.
